ABOUT
S I P STUDIOISPACE IN PROGRESS STUDIO is an architecture practice founded by Nima Nian and Rizvan Kashani in 2020.
The acronym SIP stands for "Space In Progress," echoing the structure of "Work In Progress," a noun referring to an unfinished project that is still being added to or developed.
S I P STUDIO is a spatial structure, a project continuously taking shape through its ongoing process. Operating specifically in architecture, it aims to create contemporary living spaces through an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach, first for itself and then for others.
SPACE IN PROGRESS STUDIO believes that the socio-geographic context in which it operates demands a dynamic flow to achieve a contemporary situation.
S I P STUDIO embodies this concept of flow, demonstrating how "work in progress" is central to its identity and how architecture actively shapes a narrative space.
S I P STUDIO, recognizing architecture's presence as a character in the physical world, also explores the relationship between humans and the space of the mind. This involves creating spatial structures, achieving a spatial organization, and ultimately enabling architecture to exist within mental experience.
Current Projects and Departments:
S I P STUDIO operates across three departments, focusing on:
1. Practical architectural projects:
- Professional projects
- Professional projects
- Study-research-critical projects
- National and international architectural competitions
- Product design
2. Theoretical projects [study-research-critical]:
- Human-Space: Redefining the Relationship between Humans and Space - "Artitecture" reimagines the relationship between humans and space by blurring the lines between art and architecture and the roles of artist and architect.
- Geometric spatial structures: Exploring the Language of Form - Geometric rules, relationships between shapes, and the use of shape language, based on our familiar understanding, can communicate meaning, reveal personality, character, and identity, tell stories, and elicit emotional responses in the viewer—all without using a single word.
- Historical Architecture in Cultural Iran: Investigating the Space of Iranian Culture - Investigating the space related to this geography and society, and the use of its architectural structures, considering the properties and potential of space and the possibility of redefining them for contemporary configurations.
- Archetypes in world architecture: Uncovering Universal Spatial Patterns - provide a framework for understanding how humans and space have interacted throughout history, enabling a redefinition of traditional perceptions of space and facilitating simpler communication.
3. Educational Projects - as director: SPACE SHAPE ARCHITECTURE STUDIO, Contemporary Architects Association of Iran (CAAI), 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.
